Kiln-cast glass, plaster and silica mould. About 25 cm.

Fönstret² is a cube of kiln-cast blue glass, 25 centimetres, with Stockholm inside.

I had spent a lot of time in hospital and was housebound for a while afterwards. So I took the world outside back, the city I missed set in glass on my table.

I built the city out of pictures. In Paint I cut up aerial photographs of Stockholm and put them back together until I recognised everything but got lost. The collage became a pattern, the pattern a 3D model, the model a mould of plaster and silica. The kiln melted the glass into the mould. I broke the mould apart to get the cube out. There is only one.

I wanted to see Stockholm anew, the houses and the bus and the water put together my own way. Building it piece by piece was the most fun I have had in a long time. A way to feel normal.

In the glass the parts lie side by side, a city that has passed through my gaze. The light rearranges it as you walk around the cube, and what looks like water becomes a facade.

The method: Nadja mönster

The city inside is made with a method I call Nadja mönster. I cut into an image and mirror it, one quadrant turned four ways until the motif becomes an ornament. You recognise a tower, a quay, but you cannot find your way there.
